-It reflects the belief of importance of different subjects, for example politics, adverts, drugs, society.

-The observer is very truthful to its reader and is very reliable with the hard truth which is what most readers want to hear. 

-The paper includes different cultures, religions, ethnicities to connote that the observer has diversity whereas in previous papers in the past they would have just focused on white, middle class, educated males. 

-The observer is very good with keeping up with the corona virus, 'coronavirus jabs' 'Fake news and covid'

- The observer is never seen taking anyone's side stays out of confliction 

-The observer provides information and entertainment for all years of readers and for readers that have different interest than just politics and the government. 

-Another amazing thing that the observer does is that it provides an online version of its papers so that people can comment their views and opinions and share the newspapers to others which allows them to get as many reader as they can, but still provides hard copies for anyone that wants them which is for the more traditional readers. 

-Therefore I conclude that the observer does clearly show its values and beliefs through the representation of their stories that that provide for the readers which is shows through the edition on the blog.

 Skiing Vs Snowboarding which is easier 

Skiing and snow boarding are very similar, skiing and snowboarding are ways of moving over snow with boards attached to the feet; practiced mostly as recreation or sport, but often as conveyance. Skiing is a kind of sport that uses a pair of skis to travel over snow. Snowboarding is inspired by surfing, skiing and skateboarding. Skiing is easier to learn but harder to master, whereas snowboarding is harder to learn but easier to master. 

Health benefits

Skiing is amazing for your body and can change in so many ways. The combination of these movements really tones your midsection. Stabilizing the spine during jumping and rotating is one of the cores most important jobs. Skiing is an aerobic sport which is good for raising your heart rat and increasing cardiovascular endurance. With your heart operating stronger, more oxygen gets delivered to cells in your muscles by your capillaries. 

Teen ski casualties/ role models 

There are countless injuries and deaths of skiing but I'm focusing on teen casualties, one story that spoke out to me was 17 year old Louis Ross. Louis was with a group of friends when he lost control on a slope in Maribel, the same resort where former formula One world champion Michael Schumacher suffered a brain injury in 2013. French police said Louis was going too fast down an intermediate blue slope despite signs asking skiers to slow down ahead of an intersection. He lost balance and smashed into the slope at 10.35 on Wednesday. Hearing despairing stories like this, it leaves you in a state of mind that skiing isn't this incredible sport, and that there is more to it than snow and never ending views but a dangerous and harmful side if your not careful.    

How skiing can help you escape everything 

Winter sports bring an endorphin and adrenaline rush and increase your energy levels. It simply feels good to be on the slopes and it helps reduce anxiety and depressing. Skiing is calming and relaxing when out in the cold wind looking out on the spectacular views and hearing the crunch of the snow every time your skies go over then floor. Skiing can simply help you forget and escape your every day life as the snow is a sound proof blanket so when you reach the top of the mountain its almost silent which is a cushion to all your problems.

Friday's lesson 

In todays lesson we looked on how framing and lighting change the dynamic of what you are trying to capture for your movie, or picture. The ideal person to be in the frame would be a teen as teen are pulled into websites more as they can relate or learn something new. 

Most Netflix shows portray people or the main character in their front cover, if they want to show the emotions that are carried out in the show and they are dramatic and intense the shot will most likely be a close up or part of the person will be cut of out of the frame so that is will be more intense for the audience.

For website title use an alliteration to be more catchy and to be more memorable for the audience.

How far does Cuffs adapt police drama conventions to fit its family audience at 8 p.m. on BBC1?

• state what conventions you could expect from most TV police drama
  
• analyse the programme's use of genre conventions, making sure that you cover the whole episode (not just the extract played in the exam). This means explaining all the crimes that occur in the episode and everything that the police have to deal with that may be upsetting for viewers.
  
• explain who the audience is for Cuffs
• explain how far the programme adapted conventions
  
• draw conclusions about how far the extract adapts the conventions of police drama to fit its scheduling and audience

Family friendly shows are shown between the period before 9pm and after 5.30am when programmes containing material unsuitable for children cannot be shown, this includes sexual content, violence, graphic or distributing imagery and swearing. This means that the programme Cuffs have to be very careful for their content, which might be seen to reduce the realism of the programme as police officers have to avoid swearing. Cuffs adapt police drama conventions to fit family audiences by not showing any graphic scenes of hostility throughout the episode of Cuffs, and don't show any nudity. This brings younger audiences because they will not be too frightened or disturbed on what they are seeing. By not showing aggressive and threatening scenes throughout the episode but still having the factor of action and crime allows all audiences to watch as well as older audiences because they wont get bored. This helps Cuffs to get the most views they could possibly have. For example their is a boy in a corner shop that gets stabbed but the audience doesn't actually see him getting stabbed but we see the boy laying in the floor with blood around his head. By showing the audience this much of the crime, means that the younger audience wouldn't get uncomfortable but their is still that element of excitement and intenseness for the older views so that they don't turn off the episode. 

The audience for Cuffs would probably be between 14+ because the programme is suitable for everyone as their content is exciting but not aggression heavy like some other crime tv programmes. The regulators of BBC, BBC1, S4C, Channel 4 and other broadcasters if Ofcom who control what is allowed to be produced, at what time and on what channel. BBC1 keep to their regulations by involving no threatening scenes or harsh violence.  Cuffs is broadcasted at 8pm, I think this is the right time they should streaming due to it being later in the evening you meaning less chance of what is shown to be affecting the audience. 

Therefore I conclude that, Cuffs adapts its programme to be suitable for the before 9pm audience.   

Analysing media language of mojo and BBC magazine

 

• Analyse the media language of MOJO and the BBC magazine.
• Make judgements and draw conclusions about how far the media language is used differently to fit different kinds of music. (15)

The media language in the mojo magazine is based on the music genre which in this case is classic rock, this means that there will be more older generation readers as rock is less modern that pop and hip hop. The media language is used to convey the seriousness and originality of the artist and what music he produces. The main cover line states, 'The 30 greatest songs of the cure'. This shows that Robert Smith is very vibrant and saturated to see how respected he is as an artist of rock. The main titles use the font of sans serif font which allows the magazine to be very modern and clean as well as looking serious. The font is textured to be broken and flaky which emphasises how broken he is as a person and artist. In the main picture the artist is wearing eyeliner in the shade dark black which is almost a contrast to the rest of his face witch almost matches the white background. The main focus on the magazine is the artists piercing bright blue eyes glaring straight into yours which creates this eerie and mysteries atmosphere of how serious the magazine takes their artists. This really shows the dramatic affect on the audience which shows that the target audience would be hard rock music lovers which aren't the normal target audience.   

Whereas, BBC magazine emphasis more classical music and this is shown by using less dramatic lighting and making the front cover of the artist to seem natural and realistic. The colours in the main splash are not as saturated and bright as MOJO almost more understated and neutral tone throughout the front cover as the artist almost looks as if the picture wasn't taken by having a massive photoshoot and just taken nice naturalistic photos with his cello looking much more classic to refer back to the genre of the magazine. The text isn't as cluttered as the MOJO magazine and more focusing on the artist so therefore the target audience would have to love the genre of music that this magazine is producing. By having this effect this emphasis the sophistication of the artist and the magazine.

Therefore I conclude that, both magazines portray their genre of music but use media language to portray their magazines in different ways. In MOJO magazine the hard rock is presented through the brightness and intensity of the main image which connotes the artist personality. When on the other hand, BBC music magazine is presenting the genre of classical by its formality and simplicity of the front page in the magazine.

Website 

For my different hobby articles I would include a subject like, ski resorts, health benefits, the skiing kit, different teen heroes/role models and I might include skiing casualties. For my main article I might do skiing causalities and health benefits of skiing. For my video I would show a video  of me skiing or maybe of me falling to show that it is hard and that you cant master every hobby on the first try. I would try to put calm photos of me skiing and the surrounding around all the mountains and how lost you can be skiing but still have amazing surrounding and having the wind constantly in your face. I would want to show a contrast of how viciously dangerous skiing is but how calming the hobby is at the same time.

My first paragraph on my main article page would be talking about different teen skiing causalities and talking about how these accidents happened and how dangerous skiing is and if you don't master it then don't do certain slopes. I would also be talking about the different levels of slopes and what slopes teens would be capable of doing. 

I would also talk about how calming and relaxing skiing is and how quickly you can escape from your daily life as the snow is a sound proof blanket so when you reach the top of the mountain its only silence. In this paragraph I would also talk about health benefits of skiing and how much it can help your mental and physical health.   

In another paragraph I would talk about teen skiers that are role models for beginners or interments and can inspire them and encourage then to carry on learning how to ski. There is a BBC article on getting inspired for the sport and hobby skiing. I would also talk about convenient resort and how luxurious they are and how the back of the hotel it at the start of some slopes in the mountains. I would also talk about ski schools and how helpful they would be in teaching you how to ski.

03 Developing coursework briefs

Hobby magazine  

My preferred choice would probably be hobby magazine, for my magazine I would talk about skiing as a sport and how dangerous it is but also how thrilling it is to so many people and the thrill it is with the wind blowing and the snow falling. I would also include resorts, health benefits, kit, teen heroes/role models/cautionary stories and other interesting subjects on skiing.  I would put calm photos of me skiing and the surrounding around all the mountains and how lost you can be skiing but still have amazing surrounds. I would also attach a video of me skiing or a video of me falling to show that its not perfect to master on the first day of skiing.  

03 Creating Media

Magazine:

For my article cover I would write about the hobby, skiing and how skiing can be dangerous and thrilling at the same time. For the pictures I would do calming pictures to show a contrast against how life threatening surfing if. For the information, I would talk about on how many deaths are from skiing and how it makes teens feel and how good of a hobby it is as it relaxes some people.    

Music video:

For my music video I would do a sad song that send a strong message like, stay by, Rihanna to really capture the teenage audience and it send a strong message. The song is about vulnerability and struggling and love/heart break. 

Homepage:

For my homepage I would base this website about teenagers and have different pages but the linked page would be about the hobby skiing because it is extremely vicious and hard to master quickly but also showing process of myself and others slowly getting better at the hobby.   

Television:

For the television video I would talk about the wild fires in Australia and how its affected so many peoples lives. For the footage I would real videos from the fires and show how much of a casualty these fires were and how serious the situation was.   

01 The avengers

What is your impression of the sixties era?

The sixties are represented as a specific fashion time there were women wearing mini skirts, flares specific hair cuts. The sixties was also represented as the new modern from the fifties, there were new cars and many remarkable times in that era. In the trailer that we watched the comedy back then is very different and so is the colours and the music.    

Where does this come from?

I get this impression from the trailer that we watched seeing all the different coloured outfits and the short skirts that the women wear also the music in the background is very different.

Cuffs chapter 1 and 2

what exactly does the audience learn about Jake? What is Ryan's reaction to Jake's lack of experience? How is dialogue used to construct the characters of Ryan and Jake?

The audience learn that Jake isn't as professional as Ryan and that he hasn't had much practice like the other starters in the police business, the audience recognise that Ryan isn't very fond of Jake as he looks him up and down whilst he is talking to him. Ryan almost feels that some people have to work for what they want. Whereas he thinks Jake only got his job for other reasons. The audience knows that Ryan will be hard on Jake as he doesn't want to give Jake any sort of special treatment. Ryan's reaction is very shocking because most people would think that because its his first day to help him and be easy on him but Ryan did the opposite he was really tough on Jake and I this is because Ryan new that his dad might of had an influence on Jake getting his job so therefore Ryan didn't want to let him off easy he wanted him to see how much he should already know but he doesn't.  The dialogue that Ryan uses is very strict and judgemental and showing Jake that he isn't messing around and wants Jake to learn and be a good police officer. The dialogue that is used for Jake is that he is very quiet and when he does say something it is very jockey and innocent another thing that the audience pick up is that he smiles he isn't embarrassed of himself or phased by anything that Ryan says. He has no clue what he is doing but doesn't want Ryan to think less of him from his lake of experience. 

Television in he 2010s

1. Explain technological convergence. 

Technological convergence means that television is available on television sets, tablets, game consoles and phones. Meaning that television can easily be transferred onto other devices. 

2. Explain 'channel surfing'.

This means that viewers not being loyal to a program by flicking past it to go to another channel. 

3. Give 3 examples of how channels create brand loyalty

One way in which they can do this is by having a long last television show for example, The avengers. This will help the program get more and more people coming back to watch the television show every week. Another way is from channels to rely on popular flagship programs to support their branding as a channel. The last way is is already having recording of a certain program available on demand will help the viewers come back to watch the channels tv programs, as they know if they miss it the program will be on catch up.

4. What is 'long form television drama'?

Long form television is where it is designed to encourage the loyalty to the programme as the audiences must follow every episode.

5. What is a 'flagship' programme?

Is a flagship programme the people you are aiming it at and the audience you want to keep hooked into the programme and therefore want to watch more. 

6. In exchange for the licence fee, what does the regulator require of the BBC as a Public Service Broadcasting channel?

It requires original programming, a mix of genres, arts and informational programming such as news, prime time and more. Many people love to  know what is happening in their world so the news is one of the main reputations the BBC and Public service Broadcasting are known for and what there views depend on. 

01 Television

 

According to The Times newspaper this week,  watching TV live and in real time accounts for most TV viewing.

1. What do you understand by the terms 'live' content and 'on demand' content?

The term live means that you are watching the television show while it is happening, so you are seeing it in the moment as everything happened. The next term is on demand you can watch the tv show whenever you want so therefore it could be filmed a week before you watch it so everything is recording already. 

2. What is the demand for 'live content like?

The demand is high as many people want to watch and experience the same content of tv. It is strong because some people want to have a routine around watching different shows at different times. This helps people look forward to watching their shows at the end of the day. 

3. According to rating research, there are 8 programmes cited as the top lives shows for family viewing. How many have you watched?

I have watched 4 of the 6 programs, I watch Britain's got talent, Strictly come dancing, British Bake off and Masked singer.

4. Apply Blumler and Katz's audience framework to what you learn from this article.

One example of uses and gratifications is social interaction, escapism and entertainment because lots of families get excited to watch different shows, this is creating a moment for everyone to interact and enjoy the show together. This helps them become close to gather with society and with each other. This is helping families forget their hard day of work or school and just to enjoy the moment.   

John Lennon Mojo music magazine

 Write about how musicians are represented on this MOJO cover.

John Lennon is the main focus so that the magazine can attract his fans and people who enjoy reading about him. He is very famous and will be very successful in this magazine.  

Musicians are represented as very serious as in most of the mojo magazines that I have seen there are always the musician in the middle of the front page but never smiling. They also have a light facing directly in their face. John Lennon is directly positioned in the centre of the magazine. This magazine is cluttered with information about the inside of the magazine but even having all of that information my eyes are still drawn to the picture and the album cover. It is clear that the magazine wanted him to be the main focus of the magazine because the Mojo headline is covered by him so he takes up the whole front cover this shows respect for him as they haven't covered up half of his face. They are no splashes of colour behind him it is just a simple and basic background. Most of this magazine has the same colours and there is a small bit of negative space but not as much as other magazines. This is one of my favourite magazines because it is so eye-catching and so clean in the way the cover is presented.

 Newspaper industries –ownership and control question: who controls The Observer / Guardian and what are its values?

 The Guardian and Observer are owned by a trust set up in the 1930s to protect the  independence of the Guardian newspaper and to keep safe the newspaper’s values

Press freedom and regulation question: What is meant by 'a free press'? When The Guardian newspaper investigated (and revealed) what The News of The World newspaper had done to get stories, what big changes in press regulation resulted?

The term free press means It means that people have the right to give information and express opinions through publication without fear of government, interference, such as physical violence. The news of the world newspaper has done. A free press can also help magazines complain about political issues as well.  

Convergence question: "When newspapers operate online there is technological and cultural convergence." What does this mean in The Observer?

Online newspapers will have the traditional text of the media but also will have additional headlines, photography, and more. They use television through videos and people's comments on their blogs or just comment on social media. Having newspapers online can unlock all sorts of new terminology for the media. 

Newspaper audiences question: The Observer has different sections designed to appeal to different types of readers. Explain this with examples.

By using different subjects to appeal to different readers increases the number of people reading the magazine. The magazine is also available online make the Observer accessible worldwide, One example that they have used is putting their magazines on Twitter so it is available to everyone. This widens their target market because there is a lot of young readers on social media so making the newspaper available online is increasing the younger reader's interest in the guardian. Another example is writing about different celebrities, for example, there was a cover that had various celebrities like drake which would bring a lot of the younger audience to read the magazine but there also had Carrie Symonds which appeals to the older side of the readers. 

Uses and gratification question: how does The Observer meet readers' needs for personal identity and social integration?

The Observer meets people's needs and what they want to read. The Observer meets reader's needs because they have so many different and interesting subjects for them to read. The readers get to see other's opinions and views on the newspaper and get to comment back. You can also share the newspaper to get the word around about a headline or show a certain part you like about the newspaper. By doing all of this it is helping some people get to know the Observer better and might be interested in reading some other magazines.  

Active/passive audiences question: in what way can The Observer's audience be 'active'?

Having the audience interact with the website can help the observer adapt to what the readers what to see in the newspaper and help them understand what the readers of the magazine would want to see in the future. By making the audience active they get to have their own voice and opinion on the magazine and get to be interactive with the other readers and find a common interest in what they like to read. This is helping the magazine as they would gain a lot of followers by just wanting to read the comment of other people.

Newspapers: The Observer twitter page

 If you access The Observer print edition online, you can access added features. What are they?

By letting the readers look at their newspapers online and read their favourite features of the magazine like the pictures and celebrities. To zoom is on what interests them,  this makes the newspapers more popular and noticeable in the public eye. This would be more fun and interesting to read than a boring newspaper printed in black and white as it is really appealing to look and there are so many different things to look at just on the front page. 

This is The Observer's Twitter page. What do you notice?

There is a caption saying tomorrow's page suggesting this is what they are going to have as their newspaper the next day. By doing this it is making the followers on Twitter go and read their newspaper because they have seen the front page and are interested to read the rest. The reason why Twitter is a good platform to post their front page is that it is worldwide so they are targeting more people by doing this. I can also see that their account is verified which means that they have lots of followers looking at their page daily so therefore more people reading their newspaper. 

Promoting media: Lego movie video game

Explain at least two uses and gratifications of video games using Blumer and Katz's theory. Refer to the Lego movie video game to support your answer. 

Using Blumer and Katz's theory for playing video games help people escape and relax from reality and stress. This helps by just focusing on the game and nothing else. Diversion is also a help for your everyday life because it allows you to change your mindset. It also is very entertaining and helps the player forget about everything that's happened during the day and gives them something to look forward to as it is enjoyable to watch and play. For example, the lego movie video game lets you destroy and damage buildings in the game, which is very pleasant for the player as it lets them release a lot of anger and emotions by using unaggressive actions as it isn't hurting anyone. If you didn't play games to let down your stress, the stress would cause a lot of damage to your bodies like hair loss, bad skin, headaches. For the player having different levels of difficulty, it makes the person more attached to the came and focuses more so they achieve the levels. Playing fun games like the Lego movie will help you be put in a good mood for the rest of the week and have you be put in the right mindset. 

Forming relationships and connections with the characters is important because it will allow you to understand their lives and what they are going through so you can have a bond with them, and feel emotions for them when they're sad and happy. In the Lego Movie Video Game, it is really clear what characters are bad and which characters are good and have a nice mindset towards life. It is good to have connections with the characters because they can influence you in positive ways. Lord business is the evil character as when he is present you can feel and see the mood in the movie has changed. By some people playing video games is because they want to see the character in another view instead of through the movie but in the video game. So another reason why some people play video games as having connections with the characters, is that they relate to them on a personal level. An example is Lord business has an army of the same businessmen that don't have any facial expressions or emotions which many working people can relate to and make them more interested in them as a character because they are going through the same thing. 

 

Targeting audiences through the Lego Movie ad break

1. British Heart Foundation, Confused.com, BT, and Premier inn all paid for the production costs of their adverts themselves. What does this tell you about their desire to work with the Lego Movie? 

All of these brands paid their own production costs because it would help them in the future because they knew how many young children liked lego and how many adults would find the Lego Movie entertaining and amusing.The Lego Movie before it came out was already going to be a hit and very popoular becuase many people play with lego at home. So they knew how many people would watch this ad break and find it fun and want to use these brands because they are seeing the advertisement in a different way. Another reason why they paid is that normal adverts are so boring and having the advert recreated in lego actually makes the audience want to watch them instead of skipping like they usually would.  

2. Each advert is made exclusively of Lego bricks. This helps to build the 'world' entirely of Lego. How does this theme link to the Lego Movie? Do you think this was a conscious decision by the marketing team behind the film? 

By using lego bricks it keeps the same esthetic and theme of the movie so that the adverts and movie were similar and that it shows what the movie will be like so if they enjoyed the adverts then they would love to watch the film. Using the lego brinks shows that Lego can be seen in a different way being more rialistic and helpful for people so by using bricks for the adverts show that using lego can be serious like the British Heart Foundation advert or funny and emusing like the confused.com. These adverts are sutable for the subject of the film as everything is created by lego just like the movie.    

3. Each advert is followed by a character from the lego movie such as Batman or Vitruvius. Why is this important to maintain the brand identity of the film? How does it help to remind the audience of the underlying promotional message?  

It is important to maintain the brand so that the peole watching the movie will have in their mind that it is all based on Lego so it encourages kids to play with the brand as they can see for themselves how fun it can be. By showing that there is a lego story outside of the movie is a smart idea because it is showing lego in a different way that the movie can not portray. Therefore it brings the audiences eye back to the film and that is what the main idea is for more views of the film and for Lego to get more customers to enjoy using their brand. By using batman in the film it is helping The Lego Movie still get peole watching it because by seeing batman in another film will remind the viewers of batman being in the Lego Movie and them wanting to watch the film again.
