what exactly does the audience learn about Jake? What is Ryan's reaction to Jake's lack of experience? How is dialogue used to construct the characters of Ryan and Jake?
The audience learn that Jake isn't as professional as Ryan and that he hasn't had much practice like the other starters in the police business, the audience recognise that Ryan isn't very fond of Jake as he looks him up and down whilst he is talking to him. Ryan almost feels that some people have to work for what they want. Whereas he thinks Jake only got his job for other reasons. The audience knows that Ryan will be hard on Jake as he doesn't want to give Jake any sort of special treatment. Ryan's reaction is very shocking because most people would think that because its his first day to help him and be easy on him but Ryan did the opposite he was really tough on Jake and I this is because Ryan new that his dad might of had an influence on Jake getting his job so therefore Ryan didn't want to let him off easy he wanted him to see how much he should already know but he doesn't. The dialogue that Ryan uses is very strict and judgemental and showing Jake that he isn't messing around and wants Jake to learn and be a good police officer. The dialogue that is used for Jake is that he is very quiet and when he does say something it is very jockey and innocent another thing that the audience pick up is that he smiles he isn't embarrassed of himself or phased by anything that Ryan says. He has no clue what he is doing but doesn't want Ryan to think less of him from his lake of experience.

ReplyDeleteperhaps write that he isn't as 'experienced' as Ryan rather than not as 'professional'. You are right that Ryan feels aggrieved that Jake has been allowed to move up the ranks because of his father's position rather than because he has served his time on the beat. You are right that Jake comes across as open and friendly but rather naive if he expects to be given an easy ride because of his family connections.
