Making our thrilling trailer

Making A Thriller Trailer

Today we watched a trailer in a quiet place and to see how the trailers were formed so that we could make our own thrilling trailer. By watching the quiet place trailer it helped my group get an understanding of what we had to do for our trailer to be successful and reach all of our goals that we wanted it to reach, Caitlin, Hannah, and I decided that our thriller trailer would be about a girl waking up in this never-ending maze that doesn't feel right it was full of different fields and woods with some strange person always following and just stare and watch the girl run by go by her and ready to catch her at any moment, We thought that different shots of eerie surroundings would create the intensity for the trailer. When we made these shots we wanted to make sure that they are all different angles. After we created these shots we made the name of escape because we thought that the name matches the trailer. The next step that we need to take all the videos and photos and edit all of them to make the full trailer with sound effects and to make it scary and chilling.

When we started editing it was quite hard because we have no experience but once we got into it we got the hang of it. We started by writing all the information down and then moving the videos and pictures of where we wanted them to go. After we did all of that we watched the trailer back to see if there is anything wrong so if there was we could change it, we still have a few gaps of videos to fill but other than that I think our trailer will be very scary and thrilling to watch.

Cuffs Q1-Q2

Analyse how camerawork is used in the extract to create meaning. Refer to at least two examples from the extract in your answer. (5 marks)

Firstly, camera work is used in the first scene and was using framing the shot was framing the child is protected between the parent and the duty solicitor which shows that the little boy comes across vulnerable.  The reaction shot shows that the little boy's father is looking uncomfortable and embarrassed with deciding to not let his son talk and his son is playing with toys and looking down. Then after the dad stops talking, Joe has a reaction shop that she is upset with how the police have acted towards him.

Another use of camerawork is used is an arc shot for when lady was undressing herself to see what everyone was doing and how they were reactions to her actions at that moment and what sort of facial features the police officers and everyone standing around her. This scene was very chaotic as the camera was going around in circles. This is very effective because some of the shots were put in were the people were standing so it gives the viewers in perspective as if they were there in the moment and watching as if they were that person. By flashing between different camera angles it give a different affect to if you were watching just watching from one angle. Seeing all the different perspective help create understanding of what is going on and makes the scene tenser and disorganized. This impression makes the watchers not know where to look next as they are so engaged in the scene and what’s going on

2. Analyse how far the extract creates a humorous view of policing. (10 marks)

The extract creates a humorous view of policing to a certain point, the humour in this particular extract was very dark as by putting in normal humour would ruin the atmosphere and the seriousness of this scene. An example of this dark humour is when a foreign lady tries to steal cigarettes but then gets caught so tries to take advantage of the situation and attempts to show the police officer is trying to sexually assault her. By her doing this is quite funny to some people and quit entertain but to others it might be unpleasant and rude to watch. There is a contrast in this humour as the lady that is taking her clothes of is a criminal but trying to put all the bad looks on a police officer witch is completely wrong because she is the bad person not him.

By using this dark humour, it almost separates the scenes up so it isn’t all serious and so tight with tension so that there is room to have a laugh not think about what happened last so that a part can be more relaxed ad people watching are not always stressed to think of what will happen next. Another example of this humour is in the police station were a police officer makes a comment to another police officer and saying that she can see some of his grandma’s lasagne stuck in between his teeth. Even though they are in the middle of the police station and there in the middle of an arrest there is still room for a joke to make some viewers laugh and not be so pressured to think of the drama that has happened.

In conclusion, I think that this extract does create a lot of humour but can only be understood by some people and by others might be taken differently and into a different perception that might not be funny but very uncomfortable for them to watch. The humour might be appreciated more than it usually would be as it is unexpected from the viewer as you wouldn’t see it coming.

Homework on The observer Newspaper

1. Find one example of the representation of a woman and say how she is represented.

There is a woman in the newspaper wearing lingerie and adverting the brand that sells the product. She represents advertisements for women to appeal to the women who might read their husband's newspaper to look at this advert and buy the companies clothes the newspaper would put this up so that they would get more readers but the women who would read this wouldn't actually be interested in the news that is going on but the product that is being advertised. The advertisement isn't the main picture or text that you see on the front page of the newspaper therefore it isn't the most important or interesting picture of the whole newspaper.

2. Find another contrasting example of a woman and say how she is represented

Another example is in the second magazine the queen, the photo that was taken of her isn't the best quality picture it has a dark background and she hasn't got the happiest face on. The magazine has captured a rare photo of the queen because if the queen would go out in pubic she would be smiling and happy were on this day her facial features are frowning and she is looking upset, therefore the readers of the newspaper would be shocked to see the queen so upset and sad. The queen is also the main focus in the newspaper title seeing her face the reason why she is so upset is that she is filled with guilt and sad as it took the queen so long to visit the village n was the tragedy happened and she knew that she should have gone earlier to support them.

3. Find one example of a news story about the Cold War

'America accused of spy frame up.'

4. Find one example of a story about a domestic disaster

'Queen visits mourning valley'

5. Find one example of a story about a European disaster

'Unions postpone strike'

Homework on Blumer and Katz's theory

Question: Explain at least two uses and gratifications of video games using Blumler and Katz's theory. Refer to the Lego Movie Video Game to support your answer.

Using Blumer and Katz's theory for playing video games, helps most people to escape from reality and stress, and just focus on the games that they are playing. For example, the Lego Movie Video Game lets you destroy and break building which can release a lot of anger in a nonaggressive way because you are doing it inside a screen. Using different levels of difficulty and challenges helps the player become more focused on paying and achieving the different levels. Entertainment also is helpful for playing video games because if someone has had a long hard day they need something to entertain them and help them forget what they have done throughout the day. I t is also a happy, fun way to end or start your day putting you in the right mindset for the rest of the day or week.  Stress can cause hair loss, headaches, bad skin, and many other things so by releasing yourself and letting go you won't be experiencing all of the effects. Diversion is also another reason why playing videos are such a help for your everyday life, by just forgetting all the bad activities of your day and just focusing on playing the video game.

Another way why some people play video games is by connecting to a character and creating a bond with them. By creating these connections with the characters of the video game or movie will help you understand their life story and feel sad or happy for them at certain points. In the Lego Movie Video Game, you are aware of which characters are bad and have horrible personalities and what character characters are good and have nice personalities. For example, email is a liked character but when no one believed in him the people played the game they felt sad and upset for him and wanted the better for him. Another example is when Lord Business walking into the room everyone knows that he is bad and they should like him or have a loving feeling towards him or his army. So the reason why some people would play video games is to connect and feel closer to the character and get to know them better to see their understanding of how they should feel about the character and react when they show up on the screen. By creating a relationship with the characters you can relate to them on a personal level. For example, Lord business has an army of boring businessmen but all the men look exactly the same that they wear the same suits and all have the same personality. Wich is relatable because when adults work they all have the same personality.

Homework on music video comparison- teenage dirtbag, Sk8ter boi

Question: Explain one way in which music videos use media language to differ from each other. Refer to one example of contrasting media language in two music videos you have studied to support your answer.

Music videos use media language to differ themselves by using symbolic features like lighting and colour these make a big impact on deciding if the music video is effective to watcher or not. Lighting and colour is important because it sets the scene and mood of the music video and by using lighting and colour, clothing, hair and location come under the same subject. All of these features are used to better someone’s music video. Using all these different features would help your video stand out another feature that is under the same subject is camera work using different shots would help show the clothing and setting to help get those distinctive notes. A great example of using different features to differ your music video from others are teenage dirtbag and Sk8ter boi. These both show different interpretations of a great music video but by using different lighting, colour and clothing. These two music videos have a different setting with teenage dirtbag being set in a normal high school in America this location is easily noticed because you see the prom and all the class in the hallways and eating lunch, after watching the start of the video you feel sympathy for the main boy.  Sk8ter boi is set on the streets in Los Angeles, you can identify were the video is set by seeing spray cans lying on the floor you can almost feel as if their part of the music video. Both having love inside the lyrics but come across differently, they also leave an effect on you and almost leaving you to watch more. Overall I think that both of these music videos have used the media language to differentiate themselves from each other by using the different features to make their music video unique and special.
